Surviving Wilma

These few posts from today are all raw images dumped directly fro my camera, I have no way of editing them. I am still using back-up battery power to run my modem and I am down to about three hours of time on the laptop computer. Thank goodness I had the foresight to buy an extra battery for this thing!

These images are from around my home, I hope it give you an idea of some of the damage inflicted by this storm. For more information click on the post title.

Surviving Wilma

I have some raw images to post of hurricane Wilma's aftermath. We are still without power, but our hopes are high that it will come back soon. Friends one block south of us now have power. I am hoping that we are soon to follow.

The days after hurricane Wilma

To my friends that follow my blog and may have an idea of where I live I want to let you all know that me and mine are fine. It was a very scary experience with winds gusting to over 110 mph. There is a lot of damage here in Palm Beach County and south into Broward. We lost power at about 9 a.m. on Monday and are still without. We a re hoping that we will get it back soon; the power company is saying November 12 for 100%. The good news it that there is running water and the land line still works. I am currently using my notebook computer and the battery back up to run the DSL modem.

I have many photos of the experiance that i will share as soon as I have power to run everything.

Waiting for Wilma

Since earlier this week we have been warned that the latest hurricane, Wilma, will pose a threat to South Florida. The house is all boarded up and it is very dark inside. The annoying thing is that she is not expected to arrive until Sunday night or early Monday morning. Supplies are laid in. All that is left is the waiting.

I am not worried about this storm, it is being moved towards us by a cool front that should suck some of the energy out of it. Also it will hit the west coast of Florida first and that will take a lot of the life out of the storm too.

Memphis naps

Dogs are the funniest things, they watch you all the time, even when they are napping. Memphis was my first greyhound and will follow me to the ends of the Earth. Sometimes I will just get up and wander around the house to see how long she will follow me. I get tired of that game before she does. For a really big laugh I will stop suddenly and she will run into my butt. Another game we will play is when we go walking in the park Memphis will go off sniffing and lose track of me. I will hide from her behind a tree and call her name. You should see the look of panic when she realizes that she can't see me. I only torture her for a little while before I pop out from behind the tree. She runs up to me trying to grab my arm in her mouth. I guess she is trying to tell me to never leave her like that.

An annoyed Luxor

I think my dogs get tired of me taking pictures of them and I guess you are getting tired of looking at the pictures I take of them.

Connie's Steps

these are step that are never used. These lead to the home of a woman that is the closest thing I have ever experienced to a true witch. She is now in an assisted living facility torturing the poor people there with her lies and hateful comments. One day she will die and she will die alone, no one by her side. This is the life she chose.

I can only take partial credit

I can't take full credit for this one, I wish I could I only worked it in Photoshop (yipee I now have CS2!)

Below was the original by Jake, He's the kid I often take images while talking to his mom. This time He wanted to play with the camera. I wanted to see what he though was interesting so I let him have some fun.

What do you think?

Matt in repose

An attempt at working with a model. Matt is a good friend but I still was not comfortable telling him what to do and how to place himself. I need to work on this.

Deep thoughts with Jake

He is such an easy subject. Very expressive face and can change his mood in a microsecond. Today was a good day for him, he received an award for having a "good attitude day". Whatever that means...

Palm and Ivy

I've walked by this palm tree twice a day for ten years and I just noticed today the ivy growing around the base.

Sorry but I am on a roll here or maybe I am just posting a pile of crap. 99% of everything I post lately is taken within 200 yards of my front door.

Trident original

I walk by this every time I walk the dogs; two times a day. It has been there for about three months now. It never moves. I've taken several pictures but never found one that works. This still isn't it.

2 versions just of something else

Again two versions of the same thing, I never know if things are better in color or black and white.

2 of the same only different

Which do you like better this one...

or this one?

fallen

Why do I like the stuff I see lying on the ground? Why do I always look down? I guess the sky is boring.

More stuff found only a few feet from my front door.

running with scissors

my favorite human subject

A few more of my buddy Jake. He had just washed his mother's car with Windex and decided to cut the grass with a pair of nail scissors. Cute kid but the elevator doesn't go to the top floor if you know what I mean.

I now have Photoshop CS2 with a couple of plug-ins. Below I was using something called Mr. Contrast. I don't know if it made the shot better or worse. I guess I should post the original and let the public choose.

fall colors

We have no autumn to speak of in south Florida so I though I would make a little of my own.

monarch

I helped a friend buy a new camera today. It's nice to know that my knowledge of camera and photography is good for something.

Three usable shots out of fifty-nine; about average I guess.

Action

These are some shots from a high school swim meet I went to last week. The Sony is not reall good about catching action shots. The shutter delay is taking so gettin used to. I also doesn't help that the light was fading and I had only thirty minutes to work.
